On the Thameslink route at Blackfriars Bridge, right in the heart of the City of London, Network Rail renewed the station and also the track superstructure. For the renewal of the ballasted track before and on the bridge, new ballast and new sleepers were installed in 2010 and 2011.
To reduce structure borne noise, Network Rail decided to use concrete sleepers fitted with under sleeper pads.
The concrete sleepers were manufactured by CEMEX Rail products in Birmingham. Lesmac Flexible Solutions delivered the Sylomer under sleeper pads to CEMEX and the Sylomer pads were installed during the production process of the concrete sleepers. This assured no additional work during installation of the new sleepers at Blackfriars Bridge.
