First mass-spring system in Scotland

In the Scottish capital of Edinburgh, a new tramline from the city centre to the airport is currently under construction. The modern connection will shorten journey times on the current bus route by approximately 10 minutes to around 20 minutes. Special sound and vibration protection requirements will apply in the city centre. Getzner’s vibration protection solution ensures that all the criteria set out in these requirements will be met.

“There are higher sound insulation and vibration protection requirements on some sections of the track, for example, in the Haymarket and St. Andrew Square areas. Our Sylomer® mats protect against vibration and noise and will be very effective in meeting these requirements. The proven high-tech Sylomer® material reduces disruptive vibrations very effectively”, explains project manager Lukas Mayer.

Siemens AG and construction company Bilfinger Berger are jointly responsible for the construction project. Getzner on-site technical staff and the Scottish sales partner Lesmac subjected the construction site to a thorough inspection.

The mass-spring system protects local residents and buildings from noise and vibrations. It has also helped increase ride comfort on the tram and  the improved connection is reducing traffic levels. The new track is scheduled to become operational in 2014.
